-
My foster camera I bought in 1972, a Nikon F Photomic and darkroom was
in place almost immediately after I had shot the first 5-6 films.
- I do not describe myself as a photographer, but as a painter that uses the camera instead of a brush. I'm very fascinated by the old masters like Caravaggio, who is my absolute favorite.
-
Therefore, I am also not a particularly inspired by other
photographers, but I was really impressed after a visit home with Odd
Nerdrum himself in his studio. It was an experience without equal.
- Portraits are my favorite form of photography and my ambition is to find? The Ultimate Face?
to
create the perfect portrait that will communicate a thousand words with
just a glance, a kind of Mona Lisa that can be read straight through
and tells all feelings and secrets.
-
For many years I have tried to achieve just that, with fairly good
results, but it has always been the little that has been lacking. The little extra that you can find in the ordinary man in the street and not necessary if a Hollywood star or a royal person.
- In 2005 in Prague, I had the pleasure of visiting an exhibition of Jan Saudek. This gave me a huge kick. It was a great show with many amazing images that appealed to me greatly. It was provocative, seductive and fascinating as a devil. It was a symphony to my eyes.
- Other's Favorites Sally Mann, Jeanloup Sieff and Robert Mapplethorpe.
- I do not actually much time on the shooting. Plan Ning is what takes the most time, and also editing. All my images are photographed in advance in my head and in my dreams. So
you just have to find appropriate models, location and background, all
props, planning of lighting and then just click and hope for the best.
- My eternal and life-long photo project? Nightmares & Fairy Tales?. This has already followed me for some years, and are images that represent my dreams and nightmares. - I use a lot of time experimenting with light stuff and often out to take pictures of locations.
I try to find subjects to use as background and the layers in Photoshop. I have some great records with such motives.
- Often I fish out my old slides from 30 years back and gives new life to them or use elements of the new projects.
- Equipment is very relative. Today we can get incredible results with such old Kodak Instamatic or homemade pinhole camera. I have sometimes even used a shoebox with an old Shneider Lens føstørrelseapparat.
-
Otherwise, I use my Hasselblad C500 from 72 and Digital NikonD700 with
all my old Nikon lenses that are much better than the latest plastic
lenses. Many of them have manual focus, but I'm no action photographer, so they fit me perfectly. They have a quality we can only dream about today!
- I was friends with the digital world rather late in my photographic career. I was skeptical at first but has become an avid user of Photoshop. I found very quickly that it took several hours to work out in a darkroom, I could achieve with a few keystrokes in Photoshop.
- But I have not given up the magical world of analog darkroom. So when a mission speseilt require a little extra magic, I do not hesitate to switch to analog.
- I have no favorites among my pictures. I love all equally. They are my children and everyone loves her children equally. Every picture is a challenge, an experience and a dream
is realized.
- It's a small part of my series? Nightmares & Fairy Tales? I and II. There are images that represent me. It is an extract of myself, all my fears, my weaknesses, joys and dreams. It's the Peter Pan who lives in me that has managed to get my visions on paper or canvas. I like to let my photos speak for me and those who look at them, interpret them.
- I tend to present my photos on foto.no and different forums in Europe and the USA. And it's very interesting to confront the reactions to each picture. It is more an experiment for me, than a way to get a better photographer. I will not be influenced by criticism or suggestions. And for the same reason I rarely give criticism or suggestions for other photographers. I've always been pretty stubborn when it comes to my photos: "My Way or No Way?
